Not One Child Lost in the Back of the Room!

Michaeline Barnes| June 20, 2019

Before coming to Covenant, my children attended another private school in the Naperville area.  We have seven children close in age, and with each one that went into school I realized how much time I spent teaching and re-teaching daily school lessons to them at home each evening.  It got to the point that my daughter said to me, “I don’t want to have to go to school all day and then have school at night too!” That was a real eye-opener for my husband and me.

“We quickly realized that the classrooms at our old school just had way too many children in them and that our kids were the quiet ones, lost in the back of the classroom.”

We quickly realized that the classrooms at our old school just had way too many children in them and that our kids were the quiet ones, lost in the back of the classroom.  The teachers didn’t seem to know their abilities or their personalities very well.
One teacher didn’t even know that my kindergartner was already reading until I went in for conferences mid-way through the year and told her that she had been reading since the spring before.  I was dumbfounded.

Once we knew we needed to make a change, we started looking at other private schools in the area.

“The first time I went to observe the classrooms, I almost couldn’t believe it.  The class sizes were less than half the size of our other school, the teachers were energetic and excited about the topics they were teaching, and the kids were just as energetic!”

A close friend of mine had her child at Covenant and really encouraged me to come take a look. The first time I went to observe the classrooms, I almost couldn’t believe it.  The class sizes were less than half the size of our other school, the teachers were energetic and excited about the topics they were teaching, and the kids were just as energetic! Not one child was ‘lost in the back of the room’.  They all had their white boards out, working problems, answering questions, and they were excited about it!

Long story short, we couldn’t be happier that we made the decision to move our children to Covenant. Our kids are excited about learning! They walk into school every day with smiles on their faces and, more importantly, come home with smiles on their faces.  They are challenged academically, their teachers know their abilities and encourage them to work to their full potential, and most importantly Christian teachings and values are woven throughout their days.

Our children that have now graduated from Covenant are doing fantastic in their high school curriculum.

I am beyond thankful that my friend led us to Covenant.
