Music Teacher

Working at Covenant

Covenant Classical School, a K-8 classical Christian school in Naperville, IL, is seeking a classroom music teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. The music teacher provides weekly instruction to all Grammar School grades (kindergarten through grade four) as well as several music electives per semester for Logic School grades (grades five through eight).

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess a gift for teaching, a vibrant Christian faith, and experience with an appreciation for the classical model of education.

What skills are highly valued in teachers that we hire?

Covenant’s classical and Christian philosophy of education requires teachers to be part of building our students’ academic foundation by providing instruction in the academic disciplines through the lens of a Christian worldview, while also helping students understand the foundational truths of the historic Christian faith.

We value teachers who are able and willing to implement the best practices of classical schooling including direct instruction and deeper level questioning, while preparing engaging lessons and managing the classroom in a way that builds a community of grace.

  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • A master's degree and/or prior teaching experience is preferred.

Job Description

The music teacher will build upon the solid curriculum currently in place to cultivate our students’ love for and skill in music.  The successful candidate will love music and be skilled in instructing students the elements of music including music theory, appreciation, and performance.

The music teacher also directs all aspects of the annual Christmas program and leads our popular Marimba ensembles.

The successful candidate will benefit from Orf levels training for the Marimba ensembles, and Kodaly training would be an added plus.  Covenant is prepared to provide this specialized training as needed as part of our commitment to the professional development of our next colleague. Creativity in developing our Grammar School curriculum and electives for our Logic School will be essential.  The music teacher is a skilled multi-tasker who oversees the development of the music program while managing the annual budget.

The music teacher position will begin part-time but has the potential to develop into full-time in the foreseeable future with the growth of the school.

We encourage all interested candidates to send a resume and cover letter to Dr. Tom Stoner, Head of School ([email protected]).
