Grammar School Latin Teacher

Job Title: Grammar School Latin Teacher
Job Type: Part-time Instructor for Grades 3-6
Reports To: Principal, Head of School
Beginning Date: 08/2021

This part-time position instructs each grade level three to four times per week. A love for the Latin language is a must and experience teaching Latin in a classroom is preferred. The Latin teacher will use leadership, supervisory, and instructional skills to help students grow in the knowledge of Latin, as well as in moral character and spiritual wisdom.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A vibrant Christian faith
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in ancient languages, classics, or a related field
  • A love for his/her subject matter and students
  • An understanding of and adherence to Covenant’s mission, philosophy of education, and organizational culture
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to interface with students, parents, colleagues and administrators with grace, sensitivity, and flexibility
  • The ability to collaborate successfully with faculty and staff
  • A commitment to a lifestyle of learning
  • Previous teaching experience is preferred

Job Description

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop and implement effective lessons embodying classical teaching principles
  • Build appropriate relationships with the students that develop a passion for learning and a love for God and others
  • Assist students in improving skills and study habits 
  • Effectively assess the academic, moral, and spiritual growth of the students
  • Be sensitive to academic and behavioral concerns as they are developing and intervene immediately   
  • Provide extra tutoring for any student struggling with a subject or skill
  • Demonstrate effective classroom management skills
  • Compile and maintain all reports and documents required for student records
  • Communicate frequently with students and their parents 
  • Create a welcoming, nurturing, and age-appropriate classroom environment
  • Diligently enforce all school policies 
  • Effectively supervise students during non-academic periods such as lunch, chapel, or study halls
