Covenant is truly a community rooted in grace and joy. We desire to bring together families and teachers who are passionate about educating children well using a classical model that invites curiosity, sparks joy, and inspires wonder. I love seeing the students engaged in deep and profound discussions about important truths as much as I enjoy watching them stand in awe of the incredible beauty and complexity of creation. Above all, I am so grateful for the culture of grace and love of Christ that is nurtured here. Christ is everything to us.

It has been a great privilege working alongside so many selfless, God-honoring, and talented people.

Walking the halls of Covenant, I am reminded of the depth of love each staff member and teacher has for nurturing the heart, soul, and mind of every student. The best part about working at Covenant is that I am a part of a caring, grace-filled community. I have come to feel that it is more like being part of a family. My fellow staff members, faculty, administrators, students, and parents have supported me and encouraged me through every aspect of life. Covenant is truly a place where one can experience the body of Christ. I feel extremely blessed to be a part of this community. Teaching in a classical and Christian environment is such a delight! In my classroom, it is my goal to help students see the big picture of how everything in God’s creation fits together. Our first graders learn about geography, history, and science, along with many other subject areas, and then we spend the whole year looking for ways they are all interconnected.
Mrs. Sceggel graduated from Gordon College with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and went on to earn a Master of Education in Integrated Curriculum and Instruction from Covenant College.
A Word from Mrs. Sceggel…
It's truly a delight to teach at Covenant where depth, integration, growth, and grace are valued. As my students gain knowledge and skills, our rich curriculum lends itself to discussing big ideas and making connections between prior knowledge and new ideas as well as between subjects. The second graders eagerly explore God’s creation and integrate biblical truths with their learning. I enjoy expanding my knowledge of botany, the Bible, ancient history, and teaching methods that increase student engagement and learning. Here at Covenant, learning takes place in an atmosphere of humility and grace which mirrors God’s grace and love toward us, and I am thankful to be a part of this special place.
Mrs. Karsner is a graduate of Wheaton College with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Master of Intercultural Studies and TESOL.

I am thrilled to be a member of a team whose common goal is to take part in the process of opening students’ eyes to the wonder of God's love and His creation. Throughout our days, we think critically about the materials we are covering. Our class is constantly finding connections between our topics of study. Ultimately, we seek to apply our faith to the work and learning we do. We work hard for the glory of God and reflect in amazement at all He's done and at His love for us.

A Word from Mr. Hravatic…
The students at Covenant are so engaged with the subject matter! Many times, it is hard to wrap up a discussion or lesson because they are engrossed in the topic. Their minds are reaching for and connecting different aspects of previously studied information and are bringing it to light in the current lesson.
Miss Egolf is a graduate of The King's College with a Bachelor of Arts in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics with a concentration in Literature.

As a teacher at Covenant, I am able to guide students as they expand their knowledge of language and critical thinking while nurturing their hearts for God. I enjoy working at Covenant because I am able to form meaningful relationships with students and encourage them in their studies as well as their personal growth. A Word from Mrs. McArthur…
Students bring a natural joy and curiosity to school here, and I love getting to know them as we share life together as a family. The small class sizes at Covenant allow me to get to know and work with students as individuals. I have a real passion to see students grow in their knowledge and relationships with Christ. Working at Covenant also allows me to help students understand science at a deeper level. I often ask the students "why" questions and am able to tie science into everyday situations to which the students can relate. Most of all, I enjoy helping students become excited about what they are learning in science and about how amazing God's creation is.
Mrs. Phillips is a graduate of Wheaton College with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Education.
A Word from Mrs. Phillips…
I love teaching at Covenant because I am able to grow both spiritually and professionally. The Covenant community deepens my spiritual life through consistent prayer, dependence on the Lord, and the opportunity to look for His grace daily. I am also growing professionally because I am teaching the deep, beautiful concepts of math, rather than simply the procedures. Our small class sizes allow me to know my students well and strive to reach every single one, which is immensely fulfilling.
Mr. Thornburg graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Theology from Mt. Vernon Nazarene University and earned a Master of Arts in Church History and another in Historical Theology from Wheaton College Graduate School.
A Word from Mr. Thornburg…
Covenant is an excellent learning environment for not only the student but the teacher as well. In my time here, I have been encouraged to explore my creativity as a theologian in art, media, and literature. The faculty do not consider their subjects to be isolated fields, but sciences that can and should be supplemented by the various expertise of everyone on staff. What this demonstrates to the students is that learning is a holistic experience, which then points to the source of all knowledge, Jesus himself. I have not been at Covenant Classical School for very long, yet I have grown deeply as a learner, instructor, and follower of Christ. I hope to share that growth with each student I encounter.
History and Physical Education
Mr. Gregornik graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Wheaton College. He went on to earn a Master of Arts in History from the University of Alabama.
A Word from Mr. Gregornik…
I love teaching at Covenant because the students are genuinely curious and want to understand the subjects at hand. In teaching history, I seek to help the students not only know the facts (dates, events, etc.) but also the reasons why those things occurred. It is of very little benefit to the students to know that the American Civil War occurred from 1861-1865 if they do not understand why it happened and why the men who made conscious choices to move the country to war did so. At Covenant, the students will take on these and other challenging questions, spurring their classmates on to further understanding, and will also ask their own difficult questions. This learning environment and the students who grow in and shape it are what makes teaching at Covenant a joy.
Latin and Mathematics
Mr. Spice graduated from Wheaton College with a Bachelor of Arts in Ancient Languages with Pre-Med.
A Word from Mr. Spice…
At Covenant I have the freedom to inspire students to love learning and give them the tools to pursue their interests on their own. Additionally, the community at Covenant is entirely unique. Teachers, students, parents, and administration all genuinely love and care for each other as whole people. These elements are the heart of classical Christian education and why I love teaching here.
Mrs. Wieland graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and went on to earn a Master of Arts in Teaching from National Louis University.
A Word from Mrs. Wieland…
Being able to read and discuss great classical works of literature with my students is a marvelous way to question, wonder, and ponder so many things that are relevant in their middle school years. Seeing them mature in their thinking over the years and watching them wrestle with meaningful topics is truly rewarding. I know that they are being given the gift of being able to speak well to that which they are passionate.
Miss Wood graduated from Moody Bible Institute with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and also earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education (K-12) from Northern Illinois University. She received her Orff Certification and Curriculum Design Levels 1-3 from VanderCook College of Music.
A Word from Miss Wood…
I enjoy working at Covenant because the students are eager to live life and make music. Watching the students as they understand new musical ideas, find joy while playing an instrument, or celebrate when they create a three-part round is a blessing. I want the students not just listening to music, but becoming active participants in the music making. Thus, we sing, dance, and play throughout our music classes! It is my joy to teach a subject that I am so passionate about in a way that truly allows my students to understand, experience, and love music.
